First Baby Movement!

I felt the first movement from the baby last night. I was laying half on my side/half on my stomach and started getting an odd sensation a couple inches below my belly button, where it was pressed against the mattress. It felt like this:

So excited and amazed at the same time! This pregnancy seems to be flying by so fast.

Sorry in advance if this turns into a mostly baby blog for awhile, but that is what is on my mind most of the time anymore. :)

Nursery Planning

We worked on cleaning out the room that is going to be the nursery this weekend. I have been thinking of how I want to decorate, and decided I really didn't want a theme, but more of a color scheme. I also want it to be bright and cheery. I think I am pretty set on the bright blue wall color for a boy or girl. For a boy I would accent with green, and pink for a girl. I made a couple collages of ideas. We are not buying a bedding set because you aren't suppose to use the bumpers or blankets that come with them. We decided to go with a breathable bumper, and separate crib skirt and sheets. I am in love with the paper lantern cluster and definitely want to recreate that.

Here are pictures of the ideas:

I can't wait to get started!!

I almost forgot!

With the baby coming I am making Justin a whole list of things that need to be finished around the house. It made me remember that we finally trimmed the living room and dining room area! We did this in early April and I just forgot to update about it. I think it looks so much nicer.

Before(you can also tell the huge difference in picture quality from the old camera!):

After:

The List
Finish island wall in kitchen
Trim doors
Trim flooring in living room/dining room
Paint laundry room
Trim under kitchen cabinets
Dry wall, paint and carpet nursery
Fence yard
Install sliding glass door in dining room
Finish guest bathroom

Bachelorette Cake(Adult Content)

A couple friends came over last night and we made an amateur attempt at an, ahem, adult themed cake for the bachelorette party we are throwing this weekend. Lighting is terrible in our place right now so I couldn't get a great picture.

We used chocolate sprinkles to look like hair, and it was totally not me that added the "action" to the cake.

First Baby Purchases!

Since we are officially second trimester, we made our first baby purchase this weekend! Money is tight so the plan is to buy an item or two each month until we have all of the big stuff. We broke down what we are going to need first and made a priority list. We wanted gender neutral, good quality gear so that it can be used for the next baby as well.

First we have to get the baby home, so we got a Graco travel system in the Capri pattern. I think it is much prettier in person than the picture shows! We didn't have a coupon for this, but we ended up getting 20% off because we had to return the first one we purchased. It had been used and had a cigarette burn on the seat cushion. Babies R Us certainly got an earful for that one!

Next we need a place for baby to sleep. All of the moms I have talked to told me that you really don't use the crib for the first few months and that a pack and play with a newborn napper is a great option. We went with the one that matches the travel system. The bonus is that the newborn napper is also a bouncer that removes from the pack and play and has rocker legs on it so it is a bouncer/rocker as well. Score! We had a 20% off coupon for this.

Parmesan Roasted Broccoli

We tried this super simple recipe for broccoli tonight and loved it! Will definitely be making it again. This one comes from the Cook This, Not That book.

1 head broccoli, cut into florets with bottom part of stem removed
1 Tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 450. Toss broccoli with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread out evenly on a baking sheet. Roast in oven until tender and lightly browned, about 12 minutes. Remove from oven and toss with Parmesan.

First Trimester Screening

We had our first trimester screening for birth defects yesterday. It is a combination of an ultrasound and blood work that checks for the three most common birth defects. It was my first abdominal ultrasound and Justin's first time hearing the heart beat(162 bpm). We got to see the baby wiggle and squirm around, and it also waved it's little hands at us a few times. It was completely awesome! :)

The pictures from the ultrasound didn't come out that great, but here is the best one:

Everything measured within normal range and the blood work should be back by the end of the week. Things are looking great so far! :)
